Omobolanle Olonisakin, was born on the 16^th January 1963 in Ibadan, Oyo State.  Her father was a Commissioner with the Oyo State Local Government Commission and she is the third of five children.  She attended Obafemi Awolowo University where she bagged a B.A (Ed) in English Language and worked with United Bank for Africa as a Trainer for eight years.  She relocated to USA in 1996 where she attended Harford College, Maryland, became a Registered Nurse and worked with Shepherd Pratt Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland until she relocated back to Nigeria in 2013 to support her husband.  She has been married for 28 years and blessed with 2 wonderful children, Oluwatobiloba and Fiyinfolowa. After her husband, General Abayomi Olonisakin was appointed as the Chief of Defence Staff of Nigeria, Omobolanle assumed office as the 13^th DEPOWA President in July 2015.

The Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) is a registered non-governmental organization based in Abuja, Nigeria.  It comprises members of Officers’ Wives from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force and the Nigeria Police.  The objectives of DEPOWA include promotion of cordial relationship amongst its members while helping women play their roles in national development by organizing seminars, symposia, workshops and conferences with the aim of exposing and educating women on opportunities and facilities available to them both locally and internationally.

Under her leadership, DEPOWA has been able to achieve some of her core objectives which include the creation, development and encouragement of environmental awareness and friendliness in our educational institutions in the Armed Forces and Police Barracks community.  Giving succor to the less privileged in the society through donation of food, cash and other necessary items to pregnant women, nursing mothers and HIV victims; visits to internally Displaced Persons’ (IDPs) Camps and Orphanage Homes, visits to wounded soldiers undergoing treatment in military hospitals, carrying out Skills Acquisition training with the provision of trade starter packs for widows of fallen heroes, training and empowering vulnerable youths in the society on various skills acquisition programmes and also providing them with trade equipment free of charge.  DEPOWA has also played a vital role in the eradication of malaria and reduction of child mortality and morbidity by donating various medical equipment to different medical centres.  DEPOWA recently added a fully equipped Secondary section to her group of schools so as to continue to provide qualitative and quantitative education to the barracks and her environs.  Finally, one of Omobolanle’s greatest passion is helping others, especially the less privileged in our society.
