The access and quality of education remains fundamental to the development of a child. skills such as verbal and quantitative reasoning must be developed at the early years of a child. The possibility of producing the brightest and best minds is a function of education, not just in terms of theoretical knowledge but access to hands-on practicality. Education in Nigeria has remained grossly inaccessible particularly in the northern states and this is true in majority of emerging economies. 

Data has revealed that 10.5 million children are out of school in Nigeria, which is the highest rate in the world. The figure indicates that one-third of Nigerian children are not in school, and one in five out-of-school children in the world is a Nigerian. While the education crisis in Nigeria is affecting children across the country, some children are more likely to be affected than others; girls, children with disabilities, children from the poorest households, in street situations, or affected by displacement or emergencies, and children in geographically distant areas are all disproportionately affected by the education crisis. 

Whilst a lot has been done and is still being done to change this narrative, we must continue to devote our time and compassion to the future of younger generations.  Aware of these grave realities the Centre for Economic Leadership Development in currently in special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council; with support from The African Leadership Organization (UK) has adopted the “SEND A CHILD TO SCHOOL TODAY” program to provide orphans and vulnerable children the opportunity to achieve their full potential through educational support and assistance.

CELD is committed to contributing its quota to alleviating education poverty with special attention to the girl child. In collaborative efforts with schools’ heads of states ministries and agencies CELD is working hard to provide equitable access to quality education across Nigeria and in emerging economies.  Be a part of something that stands for a greater course, through your free will donations, activism and by way of volunteering.
