Shalaka Joshi is the Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer, Asia-Pacific of Toniic- a global network of action oriented impact investors representing over $500mn of capital for early-stage social ventures. Shalaka leads Asia-Pacific for Toniic’s expansion into the Asia-Pacific, enabling the greater flow of capital to strong social enterprises in the region. Shalaka Joshi has over a decade of experience working across the non-profit and for-profit sectors in Asia, Europe and the USA, with a strong focus on building access to finance, livelihoods and markets in emerging markets like India.

A pioneer in building the field of impact investing globally, Shalaka has over a decade of experience in impact investing and supporting social business. She has co-created and run multiple impact funds that build market-based solutions to poverty.

Her social enterprise experience includes UNICEF, where she worked on micro-planning and building public- private-non-profit alliances, and Ashoka, a global association of the world’s leading social entrepreneurs. Her private sector experience includes ICICI Bank, – India’s largest private sector bank – where she led the process of integrating private sector partners into the Bank’s initiatives in health, education and micro finance. She then served as Founding Vice President of the IFMR Trust, an innovative for-profit social enterprise dedicated to building financial inclusion for low-income individuals and enterprises in India. Shalaka was also the MD of Unitus Impact- an early-stage impact investing firm which works on improving the livelihoods of low-income populations by
investing in and supporting the growth of scalable, livelihood ventures in Asia. Shalaka serves as an advisor to several startups and organizations, including the Harvard Business School Social Enterprise Alumni Association, Unltd, India and the Unitus Seed Fund. She also serves as a mentor to and coaches several start-ups and non-profits in Asia.

Shalaka serves on the Management Committee of the Harvard Business School Social Enterprise Alumni Association, as an Advisor to UnLtd, India- an incubator and launchpad for social entrepreneurs and as a Venture Advisor to the Unitus Seed Fund- a seed stage venture fund investing in startups that serve low-income populations. She is based out of Mumbai, India, enjoys poetry, travel and dance.
