Centre for Economic and Leadership Development is proud to announce that we have been officially granted Special Consultative Status with the UNITED NATIONS ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL (ECOSOC).

Special Consultative Status gives select non-profit organizations access to nearly all inter-governmental activities at the UN dealing with economic and social development. It was created to allow civil society to play an active role in UN activities.

CELD was among the 241 organizations accepted out of 624 applicants in 2012. The decision to include CELD was unanimously taken by all members of the Council.

CELD will now have access to all meetings of ECOSOC as well as other UN agencies and special events organized by the President and Secretary General. Seven representatives of CELD will be granted annual passes for access to UN premises. We will also have short-term and group passes for our supporters as well.

“This is a truly momentous milestone in our organization’s short span, and a significant moment of recognition for our humble but life-saving efforts in empowering the most marginalized group in the world- Women and Children; giving them the opportunity to fulfil their potential as well as contributing to the realization of the Millennium Development Goals as well.”
