The Global Power Women Awards New York 2024

The Global Power Women Impact Leadership Awards Ceremony was a defining moment of the Global Power Women Conference 2024, honoring distinguished women leaders whose work spans the globe and impacts gender equality, social progress, and economic empowerment. This awards ceremony celebrated the remarkable achievements of women who have driven change in their countries, advocated for women’s rights, and set inspiring examples of leadership and resilience.

Prime Minister of Uganda, H.E. Robinah Nabbanja

Her Excellency, Robinah Nabbanja, Prime Minister of Uganda, received the Global Inspirational Leader Award. In her acceptance speech, she dedicated the award to the President of Uganda, the Ugandan Cabinet, Parliament, and the women and voters of Uganda. She expressed deep gratitude, acknowledging the collaborative efforts that have empowered women to lead and contribute significantly in various sectors of the country.

Prime Minister Nabbanja’s acceptance was filled with humility, as she highlighted the collective achievements of Ugandan women and recognized their growing influence in governance and policy-making. She also thanked the audience for their support and recognition of her leadership.

First Lady of Guyana, H.E. Arya Ali

H.E. Arya Ali, First Lady of Guyana, expressed her overwhelming gratitude as she accepted the Global Female Impact Leadership Award. She dedicated the award to the women of Guyana who continue to strive for equality in the face of numerous challenges. Her Excellency described the award as a tribute to the women who hold their families and communities together while pushing for societal change.

She also acknowledged the important work done by CELD and reaffirmed her commitment to promoting gender equality, inclusion, and justice for women in Guyana and beyond.

First Lady of Belize, H.E. Mrs. Rossana Maria Briceño

Represented by the Prime Minister of Belize, H.E. Mrs. Rossana Maria Briceño was honoured with the Global Female Impact Leadership Award. The Prime Minister delivered her remarks, praising her as a true advocate for gender equality. He acknowledged her relentless efforts to uplift women, reshape industries, and strengthen governance, emphasizing her dedication to the cause of women’s empowerment on a global scale.

First Lady of Paraguay, H.E. Leticia Ocampos

Her Excellency Leticia Ocampos, First Lady of Paraguay, accepted the Global Female Impact Leadership Award with a heartfelt speech. She expressed her deep sense of honour and humility, dedicating the recognition to the resilient women of Paraguay who have tirelessly fought for equality, justice, and recognition. She acknowledged the women whose courage and determination have broken barriers and paved the way for future generations.

Dr. Filomena Gonçalves, Minister of Health, Cape Verde

Dr. Filomena Gonçalves, Minister of Health, Republic of Cape Verde, was called to the stage to receive her award. In her remarks, she reflected on her journey from representing young women at the 1995 World Women’s Conference in Beijing to receiving global recognition in 2024. She highlighted how her experiences have shaped her advocacy for women’s leadership and empowerment.

Dr. Gonçalves emphasized the importance of using technology as a key enabler to bridge the gender gap, especially in the post-pandemic era. She urged attendees to embrace technology to accelerate progress toward gender equality.

Miss Olive Lumonya, Deputy Director General, Uganda Civil Aviation Authority

Miss Olive Lumonya, honored with the Global Female Impact Leadership Award, spoke about her long-standing commitment to women’s leadership. She reflected on her participation in international women’s conferences and how those experiences have driven her advocacy for women’s rights in Uganda. Miss Lumonya expressed her gratitude to her family, especially her mother, who played a pivotal role in shaping her into the leader she is today.

CEO of Standard Chartered Bank, Ghana

The CEO of Standard Chartered Bank, Ghana, was also among the recipients of the Global Female Impact Leadership Award. Although was unavoidably absent at the GPWC 2024.

It was a glamorous, enriching and inspiring experience for all participants, as female heads of Governments, world’s first ladies, female business leaders, academics and research scholars, gathered at the 1st International Conference on Gender & Sustainability (ICOGAS) New York 2017, on September 21st, 2017, at the New York Hilton Midtown, New York USA. The Conference, put together by the Centre for Economic and Leadership Development, in collaboration with the African Leadership Magazine, was organized as a global platform with a focus on utilizing the unique perspectives of women in delivering strong sustainability projects and quantified impact; as well as to honor and recognize contributions of women impact leaders from the developing world.
