SUMMIT OVERVIEW & OBJECTIVES
The global goals to end poverty, protect the earth, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity, are unarguably and sufficiently hinged on achieving gender equality and empowerment of women and girls, with equal rights and opportunity, and freedom to live without violence and discrimination.

Historically, about 189 countries pledged to “revoke any remaining laws that discriminate on the basis of sex” by 2005, at the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995. In addition, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 19th 1979, is today one of the most widely endorsed human rights treaties, having been acceded to by 189 countries to date.

However, available recent statistics show that 49 countries still lack laws protecting women from domestic violence; and 39 bar equal inheritance rights for daughters and sons. Legislation and policies, which enable women and girls to access rights and seek recourse if denied, have been established as a necessary but inadequate condition for the sustainable development of a nation.

One of the unprecedented giant strides the world has recorded in 2018 is the remarkably social reforms pursued by Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, which have brought changes to the way of life in the kingdom; and most profoundly, developing nations witnessed the power of legislation and polices for women empowerment and sustainable development, as women stand to benefit more, from the social reforms in the Kingdom. Thus, women who have become the driving force for the Kingdom’s progress in Saudi Arabia, will continue their magnificent achievements, and further their leading role in the advancement of the country.

In light of this, and given the views of experts that putting an end to discriminatory laws, thus requires key partners, strategy and action at multiple levels, the 6th edition of the South America- Africa- Middle East Asia Women Summit aims to bring together women leaders, representatives of heads of government, global private sector thought leaders and academia across Gender and Sustainability spectrums, to draw on evidence-based global research on establishing and executing corporate responsibilities and gender-approaches towards sustainability, as well as to explore policymakers’ practical experiences on enacting, implementing and enforcing equality and non-discrimination laws.

The summit will engage participants from all regions of the world, in research-driven, thought-provoking, and rethinking discussions over the course of two days.

SUMMIT KEY HIGHLIGHTS
The South America-Africa-Middle East-Asia Women Summit shall have the following key components:

1) High level Keynote Presentations & Conversations: This session will feature the thoughts and perspectives of Female Heads of Government, First Ladies and Wives of Heads of Governments, Academia and key stakeholders.
2) Public & Private Sector Partnerships for Sustainability: The core focus of this panel will be to explore practical experiences and progress from the public and private sector players on formulating and executing policies for social sustainability.
3) Women in Business Roundtable Session: This session will focus on the policies that hamper or encourage women leadership in developing nations.
4) Women Leadership Development Masterclass: This is a pre-summit 5 days executive workshop that will focus on- “The 21st Century Female Leader: Driving Change Amidst Chaos and Uncertainty”.
