RATIONALE
Centre for Economic and Leadership Development, an organisation in Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC), in conjunction with the African Leadership magazine, and Amazons Watch magazine, presents the 2nd International Conference on Democracy and Good Governance (ICDG) – London 2018, with the theme set as: Equity, Inclusiveness, and Participatory Democracy.

Arising from the success of the Inaugural International Conference of Democracy and Good Governance in Africa which took place last year at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the 2018 edition of the conference aims to deepen and expand on the conversation centring on Democracy in Africa. The event will include a series of high-level sessions, enriching global platforms, designed to address inequalities in Africa’s democratic processes and set the bar high in accounting for pluralism, in fostering economic growth and improving the standards of living of the people.

Therefore, the core aspects of this conference will be focused on promoting diversity, inclusion and equality in Governance.

CONFERENCE KEY HIGHLIGHTS
The 2nd International Conference on Democracy & Good Governance (ICDG) – London 2018 shall have the following key components:

  • Presidential Keynote and One-on-One Conversation
  • Parliamentary & Ministerial Roundtable Session – with focus on gender:

Gender balance in political participation and decision-making is an internationally agreed target. Studies have shown that women demonstrate political leadership by working across party lines through parliamentary women’s caucuses, championing issues of gender equality, such as the elimination of gender-based violence, parental leave and childcare, pensions, gender-equality laws and electoral reforms.

Hence, this session is aimed at promoting the accomplishments of female parliamentarians across the world; as well as formidable networks, mutually beneficial and effective multi-stakeholder partnerships, policy dialogues and interactions to scale up more women in leadership positions.

  • Public sector Leadership Excellence Awards
Organisers of this conference, the Centre for Economic and Leadership Development, Amazons Watch magazine and African Leadership magazine; shall be honouring well-deserving political and business leaders, with various achievements in fostering inclusive and plural democracy as well as economic  development in their communities.
